The Residential and Property Maintenance Inspector is a part-time position under the direction of the Planning and Zoning Department.  The individual will have prior knowledge of typical construction practices and will enforce the 2018 International Residential Codes (to include building, plumbing and mechanical) and the Lincoln County Property Maintenance Regulations within the unincorporated area of Lincoln County, TN.

  • Certifications from the Tennessee Fire Marshal to enforce the 2018 International Residential Code, the 2018 International Mechanical Code, and the 2018 International Plumbing Code OR show proof of a minimum two (2) years construction experience and a commitment to obtain the required certifications within twelve (12) months upon hire.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Be able to read a map and follow directions

Job Type:
  • Part-time

  • Grade 36 Step 1  |   $20.88 per hour  |  $25,056.00 annual

  • Not eligible for part-time positions

  • 3 days per week  |  7.5 hrs per day  |  10 additional floating days  |  Total 160 days per year

Primary Function:
  • This position will perform residential inspections for compliance with the adopted 2018 International Residential Codes (building, plumbing and mechanical).  Tasks may require the ability to exert light physical effort, climbing a ladder, work in tight places, bending, carrying, pushing or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10 – 20 pounds).  In addition, individual will investigate complaints against property maintenance as adopted by Lincoln County.  Will require record keeping both paper and electronically as well as correspondence.

Employment Agreement
  • Applicant must agree to remain in good standing and employed with Lincoln County for a period of two (2) years after gaining successful certifications from the International Code Council and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal.  Failure to complete this term will result in the reimbursement of certification expenses to the county.
